Andrew Haagen is a portrait photographer based in Los Angeles whose work is defined by intimacy, restraint, and a refined editorial sensibility. He spent a formative decade in New York City (1993–2003), assisting iconic photographers including Annie Leibovitz and Irving Penn. Those years instilled a respect for craftsmanship and an approach that balances formal rigor with a deep, human connection to the subject.
In 2004, Andrew established Haagen Studios in Los Angeles, where he continues to create striking images for magazines, record labels, studios, and artists. His portraits are known for their clarity of intent and quiet intensity, photographs that feel both timeless and unmistakably of the moment.
For twenty years, Andrew served as the resident portrait photographer for the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. His archive from the festival traces the rise of new voices, the reinvention of established acts, and the event’s transformation into a global cultural touchstone. With a keen eye for narrative and an ability to put subjects at ease, Andrew’s work stands as a lasting record of contemporary music and the people who shape it.
